Unique to Belize. No other Caribbean destination combines the thrill of floating down a river through a spectacular cave system, the mystery of the ancient Maya, the richness of a living rainforest, and a wonderland of adventure, learning and history.
Your Mayan Rainforest Cave Tubing Adventure begins at the Belize Tourism Village. This is where all Belize City cruise ship tenders dock. A few steps from your tender, you will meet our team and board a passenger van that will transport you into the interior.
After a scenic tour through colonial Belize City, you will continue inland along the Western Highway, passing through quaint Creole settlements and onto the hallowed grounds of the Caves Branch River Archaeological Reserve. Upon arriving at Caves Branch River Archaeological Reserve, your guides will outfit you with your cave tubing equipment, including an adjustable headlamp, life jacket, and inner tube.
After your safety briefing, you will embark on a nature walk through lush, tropical rainforest and caves once inhabited by the ancient Mayans. Often celebrated for their discoveries in math and science, the Mayans believed the caves were a supernatural realm where their ancestors resided, as well as the deities of nature, such as rain, thunder and lightning. Along the way, your tour guide will point out native species of plant and animal life.
At the end of your nature trail, you will enter into the Caves Branch River to embark on an adventure like no other. Your tubing ride will take you through waters that range from placid to quick-moving rapids. Conditions permitting, our tours will pass through two cave systems, featuring enormous chambers with cathedral-sized rooms. Watch in amazement as your headlamp shines on bizarre limestone shapes, stalactites, stalagmites, flowstones and, ultimately, into the darkness beyond. Listen to water dripping from spectacular ceiling formations or to your own voice bounce off distance walls.
After your wet and wild adventure, those who have selected the lunch option will be treated to a home-cooked lunch at a local restaurant. The menu typically includes Belizean stewed chicken, rice & beans, slaw, and banana bread. A soft drink is included, and there is a full service bar available for adult beverage purchases.
After lunch, you are invited to explore the grounds around the restaurant for some unique photo opportunities. Enjoy the sight of lush green fields, towering royal palms, coconut palms, and the guanacaste, which the ancient Maya held as sacred. You’ll soak in more memories on your way back to the Tourism Village.
As with all Coral Breeze excursions, throughout your tour your guides will be eager to enrich you with knowledge about Belize, its diverse peoples, history, and culture.
Our prices are well below the cost of comparable tours sold through the cruise ships and include all expenses (park fee, taxes, equipment, guide). Children must be at least 40 inches in height to participate.
Your tour departs near Terminal 4 inside the Tourism Village in Belize City (the dock area where the cruise ship tender boats drop off their passengers). As you disembark from your tender boat, turn left and walk along the boardwalk toward Terminal 4. Just past the Village Pharmacy storefront, you will see a sign for Coral Breeze Adventure Tours (our local operations partner) and will be met by your guide. Please ask for Ivar or Star if you cannot find your guide.
Our tours are scheduled to fit within the port time of the cruise ships arriving in Belize City. We monitor the cruise ship tender schedules and plan our tour itineraries to give you plenty of time to return back to your ship.
The cave tubing tour generally requires extended periods of walking over varied terrain. There may be steps, inclines, cobblestone surfaces, and extended periods of standing. Participants should also be able to handle the slight to moderate current of the river while tubing. Guests with physical limitations should take these factors into account. Children must be at least 40 inches in height to participate.
Your deposit is fully refundable if you cancel your reservation at least 4 days before your tour. In addition, you will receive a full refund if your cruise ship does not stop in Belize for any reason, or if weather conditions or other factors force us to cancel your reservation. Balance payments in Belize must be paid in cash with U.S. dollars. If you wish to pay your balance in advance by credit card, a surcharge of 4 percent of the payment amount will be charged to your credit card.
Reserve a group of 8 or more and get a 10 percent discount on your total price. Please note that groups formed online to qualify for the discount (e.g., “roll-call groups”) are not eligible.
Children under 40 inches cannot participate.
