Not your typical touristy cruise ship tour.
I left a message on Cruise Critic about the great time we had on the Captain Your Own River Boat tour in Belize. It was a great choice for our family. It is not your typical touristy cruise ship tour. We were the only family and had the full attention of the guides. The lead guide (James) was very knowledgeable and gave interesting information about the history of Belize. He is enthusiastic about his country and providing a good tour. The ride through the mangrove forest was a lot of fun. We had three boats plus the guide boat in our group. Our family owns boats, so we had experienced boat drivers for our boats, which was a big help. James was very good about finding and pointing out wildlife along the way. We saw monkeys, iguanas, crocs, and bats. James had two other guides with him, so there was plenty of help with the boats and getting us on and off of the pier. The other guides helped James drive the guide boat and spot wildlife. I wish I could remember their names because they deserve credit too. I had some concern about making it back to the pier in time for the last tender but the guides kept a good eye on the time and we made it back OK. Right after we were dropped off at the pier I discovered that I had left a bag on our river boat. James and his crew made a mad dash back to the point where we had dropped off the river boats, found my bag, and brought it back to the pier where we were waiting to board our tender back to the cruise ship. It must have taken him about 20 minutes to do that. That was really above the call of duty. Thanks James and crew!!
